High Five Welcome

On the first day of the 2016-2017 school year, students at King Elementary were greeted by dozens of smiling faces and high fives.  Instructional coach, Lori Staples organized community members to welcome students back to school in a special way.

Many student athletes from Drake University and Grandview University, members of the Des Moines Police Department and Des Moines Fire Departments, Community Youth Concept staff members, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brothers and other neighborhood volunteers lined the sidewalk leading up to King Elementary.  The community members clapped, hollered and gave out high fives as every student arrived for their first day of school.
